Cinderella’s domestic violence gala ball
The Northern Domestic Violence Fundraiser on Saturday June 4 features Young South Australian of the Year, Arman Abrahimzadeh, whose father murdered his mother in front of 300 people at the Adelaide Convention Centre in 2010.
Northern Domestic Violence Services (NDVS) in conjunction with Hope Central is calling on the community to attend a Cinderella Ball, held at the Grand Ballroom in Fulham Gardens, to raise funds for accommodation and support services. An advocate for better legislation to protect women and children, Arman Abrahimzadeh speaks to schools, sporting clubs, police cadets, is a White Ribbon Ambassador and established the Zahra foundation to support SA women and children.
“After we lost our mother to domestic violence, we wanted to put our energy into something positive. We didn’t want another family to experience what we experienced.”
Marge Rogers from NDVS says half a million Australian women experience domestic violence each year.
“Many families become homeless and experience significant impoverishment because of domestic violence.”
NDVS provides accommodation and services to women and children subjected to domestic violence and abuse.
“Families arrive with little or no possessions, many just in the clothes they are wearing. They are usually disconnected from family and friends and are often in a state of shock and afraid for their safety.”
“We provide a safe place for women and children at risk and connect them with the legal, practical and emotional help they need to move forward. We support them, but in turn, we need support from the community.”
Guests at the Cinderella Ball will enjoy a sumptuous 3-course meal, soft drinks & live entertainment and a live auction. Bar service available.
The evening’s MC is Adelaide’s own Amanda Blair. All are welcome.
